5 Alabama singers who excelled on âThe Voiceâ (and why we loved them)
Alabama has a finalist on “The Voice” this year, courtesy of a singer known as D.Smooth. The Birmingham native, whose offstage name is David Mitchell, has been earning fans with his powerful, silky-toned performances on the NBC reality series. All four celebrity coaches on the show — Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Niall Horan and Chance the Rapper — have been wowed by his skills, as well.
D.Smooth will compete as one of the top five singers on a pair of finale episodes that air May 22-23. As we wait for D.Smooth’s next appearance on national TV, it’s a perfect time to look back at singers from Alabama who made us cheer on previous seasons of “The Voice.”
More than 30 contestants from the state have made their marks on the show over the years, starting with Nakia Reynoso in Season 1 and continuing through this year with four — count ‘em, four — Alabama singers moving through the competition in Season 23. We’ve handpicked five standouts, however, who are worthy of extra attention.
